1) Udyog KendraVIDYA’s Udyog Kendra program encourages women to learn to make products and handicrafts from jute and paper under strict quality control and atmosphere of professionalism and discipline. Market surveys and exposure through exhibitions/stalls enable them to understand market trends, competition and need for detailed creative work. Women are paid a monthly stipend, conveyance costs, extra labor on certain products and learn through designer workshops. They earn up to $35 per month and under a special scheme with ICICI are saving money on a monthly basis too. 20% become self confident enough to take up jobs or work from home earning $85 per month. In 2009, women in the Udyog Kendra program were taught the art of fabric painting on t-shirts in a workshop held by the GAP team. read more
