Every year Mumbai celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi with colourful idols, intense devotion and an unmatched fervor! At VIDYA this happens with a difference- with Eco-Friendly Ganesha Workshops.

“The Eco Friendly Ganesha workshop is an ongoing effort to save water-bodies from pollution and devastated Ganesha idols. As a part of our civic responsibility and moulding young minds the Ganesha workshops are held prior to the Ganesh Festival. Our workshops are open to students, teachers, volunteers, and our corporate partners and the general public too. Using the clay from the Powai Lake the idols are lovingly created . The material used for making and decorating Idols is also eco-friendly. and many take them home to worship. The visarjan or the immersion is also a give back to Nature.

This year VIDYA Margam organized Eco-friendly Ganesha workshops at 10 locations spanning the length of Mumbai in August 2011. Around 1000 students as well as employees from the corporate partners participated passionately, in this initiative to preserve nature and environment.

The Margam team of 20 women who had been trained by VIDYA carried their learnings across and successfully conducted the workshops under the supervision and guidance of VIDYA Margam mentor Mrs. Chaitali Gupta. It was truly a community empowerment on display as mothers and children bonded over Ganesha idols sharing stories and technique with all !
